Three adults were found dead from gunshot wounds in a barricaded bedroom inside a Fairfax County, Virginia, apartment Tuesday morning, local officials reported.
Police responded to the scene around 10:31 a.m. for a welfare check after receiving calls from one of the resident’s family members, according to Fairfax County Executive Deputy Police Chief Brian Reilly. When officers arrived, the resident’s female roommate let police into the apartment to go to the back bedroom, which was locked from the inside.

The Fairfax County Fire Department was called to the scene to look inside the bedroom window from a ladder and reported that they could see what appeared to be three deceased individuals inside the room, Reilly said. Police then forced their way into the bedroom, finding that both the door and window had been barricaded shut.
All three of the dead adults, two females and one male, appeared to have been killed by gunfire. Officers are investigating the incident to determine whether the incident was a double murder-suicide, but officials have not yet identified a suspect or motive, Reilly said. However, it’s believed that the three who died were the only ones in the room when the shooting took place.

The female roommate is not considered a person of interest “at all,” Reilly told reporters Tuesday. As of now, there is no danger to the public, according to officials.
Police are unsure of the relationship between the three who died, but they were all determined to be in their late 20s. No further identifying information was given about the deceased.
