Pedestrian killed in Wheaton A pedestrian was struck and killed in Wheaton Saturday morning, Montgomery County police said.
The accident occurred around 7:25 a.m. at the intersection of Georgia Ave. and Windham Lane. Police closed Georgia Ave. southbound while they investigated the accident; the road was reopened by afternoon. No details on the victim were available.
Police disarm mentally ill woman
D.C. police declared a “barricade situation” Saturday after a female mental health patient wielded a knife on the 5000 block of First Street NW around 11:30 a.m.
Police called in the emergency response team, akin to a SWAT team, to convince the woman to give up the knife.
The team took a “tactical approach,” and the woman relinquished the weapon, a police spokesman said. He could provide no further detail.
Teens get 40 years for murder
Two District teenagers were sentenced to 40 years in prison for killing a man and wounding another during a robbery of a dice game in Southeast Washington.
Aaron Andrews, 19, and Curtis Weeks, 18, noticed the game in the parking lot in the 1100 block of Eaton Road SE on Sept. 25, 2009, and returned with guns and announced a robbery.
One of the players started to run, and Andrews shot him in the stomach. Reggie Cook, 20, ran to his friend’s aid and got into a struggle over Andrews’ gun. Weeks then shot Cook in the chin, killing him, authorities said.
Md. man sentenced in child porn case
A Maryland man was sentenced to five years in prison for possessing and advertising child pornography.
Court records say 45-year-old Michael Moskal, of Upper Marlboro, possessed hundreds of sexually explicit images of young girls and told others online how to access live sex shows.
Agents found computers with 719 explicit images and 65 explicit videos in Moskal’s home.
