Prosecutors seek life term for Guandique The man convicted of killing federal intern Chandra Levy should spend the rest of his life in prison, prosecutors say. Ingmar Guandique, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, is scheduled to be sentenced Friday. He was convicted in November of killing Levy in Rock Creek Park in 2001.

“Mr. Guandique has demonstrated predatory behavior that seems incapable of rehabilitation and thus, poses a grave danger to the community, expresses no remorse, and refuses to accept responsibility for his criminal conduct,” prosecutors wrote in court papers.

Youth took explosive to school, police say

A 13-year-old D.C. middle school student was arrested Tuesday after officials said he bought an explosive device to campus.

School security at Jefferson Middle School found the device in a student’s book bag as students arrived Tuesday morning to the school at 801 Seventh St. SW, D.C. schools spokesman Frederick Lewis said in a release. The device was described as “destructive.”

School officials are recommending that the student be expelled for possession of fireworks or explosives, Lewis said. The student will not be allowed to return pending the expulsion proceedings, Lewis said.

arrested in brawls

Six people were arrested after two brawls broke out at Woodrow Wilson Senior High School in Northwest Washington, D.C. police said.

D.C. police spokesman Paul Metcalf said school resources officers called for assistance on the campus around noon Tuesday to respond to a fight. Police arrested four people, all juvenile males. Fifteen minutes later, another brawl broke out and police arrested two more male students.

The high school had temporarily been moved to the University of the District Columbia campus on the 4300 block of Connecticut Avenue for renovations.
