A gunman who fired at a Metrobus early Sunday morning remains at large, but the rider who was shot is expected to be released from the hospital Monday, according to Metro.
The shooting occurred around 6:30 a.m. near 37th Street and Ely Place in Southeast.
Little information is known about the shooter. The person’s face was covered apparently with a ski mask, Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said.
He was waiting by a bus stop on the sidewalk as though waiting for the bus. But when the bus pulled up, he made no move to board it, Stessel said. As the bus left, the man chased it and starting firing.
Three shots broke through the bus window, two of them hitting a rider, one in his left hand and one in his right arm, Stessel said.
The victim is not cooperating with police, Stessel said. Police are investigating whether the two men knew each other.
It was latest violent crime on a Metrobus. Last month, a rider was fatally shot by two other riders and a bus operator was stabbed by a rider.
