Former NBA superstar arrested on felony drive-by shooting charge

Former NBA superstar Shawn Kemp was booked into jail Wednesday evening in Pierce County, Washington, in connection with a drive-by shooting.

Online records for the county show that the 53-year-old former Seattle Supersonics forward was booked on a felony drive-by shooting charge at about 6 p.m. local time, according to ESPN. Police in Tacoma, Washington, said no one was injured when a fight between the occupants of two vehicles near the Tacoma Mall led to shots being fired. Police later recovered a gun from the scene.

A video of the altercation published by KIRO7 News shows a man in red standing next to a Porsche, a car registered to Kemp. The man waves an object in his left hand while speaking with another man in the mall parking lot before getting in the car and driving off.

Kemp played for the Supersonics during his first eight years in the NBA, helping Seattle reach the 1996 NBA Finals, where they lost to the Chicago Bulls in six games. Kemp also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Orlando Magic in a 14-year career.

He was known as a high-flying dunker and, in the mid-90s, was regarded as one of the most exciting players in the league. He made All-NBA Second Team three times.
