Police said a man accused of kidnapping and torturing a woman in Oregon in January is dead after shooting himself during an hourslong standoff Tuesday night.
Benjamin Obadiah Foster, 36, was the subject of an intensive, round-the-clock search by police after a woman was found unconscious, bound, and near death in Grants Pass, Oregon, on Jan. 24. She was hospitalized in critical condition, according to the Associated Press, and Foster was wanted for attempted murder, kidnapping, and assault.

Foster died at a nearby hospital from the self-inflicted gunshot wound, KDRV’s Brett Austin Taylor tweeted.

Police surrounded the home where they believed Foster was hiding on Tuesday, law enforcement told CBS Radio. Foster was reportedly under the porch of the home where the woman was found.
Law enforcement previously said Foster was convicted in Nevada of keeping another woman in captivity, and while he was on the run due to the Oregon charges, he used dating apps to find new victims or people who could help him avoid the police.

Police said a press conference would be held Wednesday with more details.
