Metrobus hits Arlington bicyclist

Editors’ note: Because of incorrect information provided by Arlington
County police, the following story incorrectly said the bicyclist who
was hit by a Metrobus on Tuesday worked for the county as a contract
worker in the recycling division. The post also gave the incorrect
spelling of county spokeswoman Mary Curtius’ last name. The
information has been corrected below.

An Arlington County worker was hit by a Metrobus while biking in the county Tuesday morning.

The biker, whose name was not released, had a non-life threatening head injury and was taken to the Washington Hospital Center, according to Arlington County police.

The crash happened around 9:15 a.m. at the intersection of South Glebe Road and South Lang Street, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said. The bus was a 23A that runs from McLean to Crystal City, said Metro spokesman Philip Stewart.

News of the crash was first reported by WTOP.

The Metrobus operator will be taken off duty and tested for drugs and alcohol as is standard procedure, Stewart said.

The man who was hit is a contract worker for the county’s environmental services divsion, who works on recycling, county spokeswoman Mary Curtius said.
