Authorities will investigate whether officers used excessive force when they arrested a New York man who allegedly assaulted a D.C. police officer.
Craig Wilson was arrested in connection with assault on a police officer Saturday while authorities were looking for a suspect wanted in connection with a homicide, according to a statement from the District’s Metropolitan Police Department.
The Associated Press reported that Wilson alleged that he was mistaken for a homicide suspect. Wilson claims he was thrown to the ground and pepper-sprayed while attending a National People’s Action conference.
A rally in support of Wilson was held Monday outside the police department, the AP reported.
