Local church tagged with racist graffiti

Churchgoers in McLean were greeted by racially charged language spray painted in bold, block letters next to the front door of their sanctuary on Sunday, Fairfax County Police said.

Congregants of the First Baptist Church of Chesterbrook on 1740 Kirby Road discovered the graffiti around 8:30 am. Police  canvassed the area the discovered additional graffiti on surfaces at Chesterbrook Elementary School.

Police believe the markings were made by the same people or groups of people during Saturday night or early Sunday.

The racial language bears greater weight than what would otherwise be a destruction of property charge – police said it’s considered a hate crime with mandatory jail time.
