Friends of Rudolph Allen Turner Jr. had a habit of waking him in the middle of the night by tapping on his bedroom window, neighbors said, but when the 25-year-old pulled back the curtain Tuesday he came face to face with his killer on the other side, according to police.
Anne Arundel police arrived about 1:50 a.m. at a house in the 500 block of West Cedar Hill Road in Brooklyn Park. They found Turner in his bedroom — dead from at least one gunshot to his upper body.
His death marked the sixth homicide in Anne Arundel so far this year. Investigators believe Turner was personally targeted.
Police have several leads on suspects, but were not releasing further details Tuesday, said police spokesman Sgt. John Gilmer.
The community returned to normalcy Tuesday afternoon, except for two lingering crime scene technicians photographing the house, including the gaping hole taped over with plastic where police had removed the window for evidence.
Police also dusted a fence for fingerprints across the street, suspecting the killer crept through a neighbor’s backyard to get to Turner’s house and unknowingly left the gate open.
Matt Jackson, 42, a resident who said he was awake when the shooting occurred, said he thought the loud bang was a car crash and went outside to look.
Jackson said police cars arrived moments later and began blocking off the crime scene and searching the area with K-9 units.
Turner’s extended family members and his girlfriend arrived at the scene shortly after, but police prohibited them from entering the house, Jackson said.
“It seemed like [the shooting] was pretty personal,” Jackson said. “Everybody was outside and really upset.”
Turner shared the residence with his mother and his brother, who left to stay with family members in Upper Marlboro and could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
Autopsy results are pending.
