A University of Maryland writing instructor has been charged in the shooting death of her husband.
St. Mary’s County sheriff’s deputies said Joanna Findlay, 40, shot her husband, Gary Trogdon, 55, during a dispute Saturday night at their home in Hollywood. Deputies say Findlay called 911 to report the dispute, and then Trogdon called to report that his wife had shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and she has been charged with second-degree murder.
Trogdon was a member of the undergraduate faculty in history at the University of Maryland University College.
Findlay was teaching four classes at the College Park campus. According to the school newspaper, the Diamondback, students described Findlay as “a witty and engaging instructor with a passion for firearms.”
