Man dragged by bus in Prince William dies
A California man who was trapped under a bus in Woodbridge and dragged 50 feet has died, Prince William County police said. Jose Chavez, 18, was flown to an area hospital after being dragged by the bus near the intersection of Gideon Drive and Dale Boulevard on Monday. He died from the injuries Tuesday morning. The driver of the 1999 Prevost coach bus was a 48-year-old woman from Florida. She has not been charged, and police continue to investigate.
Seven of 10 gang rape suspects now behind bars
Authorities have arrested the seventh suspected illegal immigrant accused of gang raping a 30-year-old Alexandria woman in a Waldorf house, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office said. Jose Maria Echebarria was arrested by police in Newark, N.J., on rape charges. Three other suspects remain at large. Authorities say the woman accepted a ride home from an Alexandria nightclub from one of the men and was then held hostage and raped for hours before escaping. Prince William County police have accused a 43-year-old man of driving under the influence when he allegedly ran a red light and slammed into a sport utility vehicle driven by a Fairfax County police officer. John Aubrey Cook was arrested on DUI charges after he hit the 43-year-old police officer over the weekend. The officer is recovering from serious injuries, authorities said. Cook was also charged with possession of marijuana.
Woman hit by Metrobus charged
A 40-year-old Arlington woman who was hit by a Metrobus after stepping in front of it was charged with careless interference of traffic. Lisa Pope suffered minor injuries after being knocked to the ground by the edge of the bus’s bumper Monday morning, authorities said.
