Two police officers and a firefighter were killed while responding to a call in a Minneapolis suburb on Sunday, according to officials.
Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) said the officers and the firefighter were responding to a “family in danger” in Burnsville, Minnesota, when they were killed, and other officers were injured.

“Horrific news from Burnsville. While responding to a call of a family in danger, two police officers and one firefighter lost their lives, and other officers were injured,” Walz said in a post on X.
“We must never take for granted the bravery and sacrifices our police officers and first responders make every day. My heart is with their families today and the entire State of Minnesota stands with Burnsville,” he added.
The Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association also confirmed the deaths, saying they were “devastated at the horrific loss.”
“We are heartbroken. Our law enforcement community is heartbroken. We’re just devastated at the horrific loss. These heroes leave behind loved ones and a community who will forever remember their bravery and dedication to keeping Minnesotans safe,” the association said in a post on X.
Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN), who represents Burnsville, said she has been “in close contact” with officials and has offered federal assistance if necessary.

The St. Paul Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said on Sunday that it had agents responding to the scene.
