Two D.C. men were found guilty of robbery and one of the men was convicted of a hate crime in connection with an attack on two men last fall.
Michael Cowan, 23, and Vernon Long, 25, face a possible 10 years in prison. Cowan faces more time after the jury determined he acted with prejudice against the victim’s sexual orientation.

The attack happened on the night before Thanksgiving 2009 in the 2400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Cowan shouted epithets at the victims as he punched and kicked one of the victims.

SUV doing doughnuts in parking lot
A pedestrian who was struck by a sport utility vehicle that was driving in circles at a Prince George’s County parking lot has died.
Police said the vehicle was driving erratically in the 4800 block of Indian Head Highway in Oxon Hill around 1:30 p.m. Monday, when it drove up on a sidewalk and struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian, Clifton Harris, 52, of Fort Washington, died Tuesday.
Police said speed and drugs were a factor, and charges are pending against Jujuan Savoy, 29, of Temple Hills.
Two females sought in stabbing
Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery and stabbing at the White Oak shopping center in Silver Spring.
On Sunday around 11:15 p.m., two teenage girls approached a person and tried to grab his cell phone. When he resisted, a girl stabbed him in the side of his chest with a knife. The girls fled and the victim suffered a minor stab wound.
Both suspects were described as black females, about 5-foot-10 with a “chubby” build. One was wearing an orange jacket, bluejeans and was walking a small white dog on a leash.
