Jay Steven Fayne was under federal investigation for loan-sharking when he was found dead in his Severna Park home.
The 52-year-old father died of gunshot wounds to the upper body, Anne Arundel County police said. Fayne was discovered by his 15-year-old son, who had just returned home from school.
The high school student called 911 saying his father had been shot.
That was Oct. 17, 2006, and police still are looking for information that can lead to Fayne’s killer or killers.
Detectives said they do not believe this was a random crime.
Four months before his slaying, federal prosecutors in Maryland charged Fayne with loan-sharking, alleging that he used threats of violence to collect a debt.
Police told the Baltimore Sun at the time that Fayne had money issues and that was likely the motive for the killing.
Neighbors told newspaper that Fayne had moved into the one-story home at 508 Center Drive about a month before his death. He previously lived in Millersville and Cockeysville.
Several of the victim’s family members and associates have been interviewed by detectives to determine a motive for the homicide, although police say none has been established.
Anyone with information on the case can contact Anne Arundel County police Sgt. Keith Clark, of the homicide unit, at 410-222-3456
