Md. house fire kills one One man was killed and another injured in a house fire in Potomac early Sunday, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service. About 65 firefighters were called out to the blaze on the 8500 block of Scarboro Court, near Bells Mill Road, around 4:40 a.m., said Montgomery County Assistant Fire Chief Scott Graham. Two men in their mid-70s were found inside. One had minor smoke inhalation and was later listed in stable condition at a local hospital. The homeowner died of his injuries, Graham said. The names of the men have not been released.
Fire officials were still investigating what started the fire, which caused about $400,000 worth of damage.
Police ID body in trash can as W.Va. woman
Prince William County police have identified the woman whose body was found in a burning trash container last month as Erica Dawn Maynor.
The 25-year-old, who went by Kitty or Kit, had recently moved to the area from Kenova, W.Va., with her child, according to the Associated Press. Her body was found March 23 outside the Bayvue Apartments in Woodbridge after firefighters put out the blaze. No information was available on the whereabouts of the child.
Reston man killed in wreck
Arturo Cruz Zaldivar, 22, of Reston, was killed when he lost control of a 1988 Oldsmobile Bravada off the Fairfax County Parkway near West Ox Road. The car ran off the road, up an embankment and landed on its roof in a back yard. He was not wearing a seat belt, Fairfax County police said, but his passenger was wearing one and had only minor injuries. Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the accident.
Police seek vehicle in hit-and-run
Police are asking for help finding one of two vehicles that struck and killed a woman late Friday in Prince George’s County.
Dorothy Lewis-Gray, 47, was hit around 11:54 p.m. Friday as she tried to cross the 7100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Coral Hills. The driver of that vehicle stopped, but a second driver that hit her as she lay in the roadway left the scene.
Police believe the second vehicle is dark in color. Two black males, about 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall and ages 25 to 30, were seen inside it.
Prince George’s County Police ask anyone with information about the second vehicle to call Crime Solvers at 866-411-TIPS (8477). Tipsters may be eligible for cash rewards.
