Conviction in dice game slaying

A District man has been convicted of first-degree murder in a slaying during a dice game in Northeast Washington.

The slaying took place early Oct. 2, 2010, in the parking lot in the 5300 block of Dix Street NE.

During the dice game, Rickey Pharr, 28, and Angelo Jones, 31, got into an argument, and Pharr accused Jones of being a government informant.

Pharr then asked another person for a gun. He left and returned with a gun and shot Jones six times in the back, prosecutors said.

Pharr faces a minimum of 35 years in prison.

D.C. man faces 10 years in mob beating

A D.C. jury has convicted a man in the mob beating outside a popular U Street nightclub and restaurant.

Gebeyaw Fasil, 24, faces up to 10 years on a charge of aggravated assault while armed.

On June 19, 2011, Fasil started an argument inside the Dukem Ethiopian Restaurant at 12th and U streets NW. Fasil and a group of about five to seven men followed the victim and his friends and attacked the victim in the 2000 block of Vermont Avenue NW, prosecutors said.

The victim was punched, kicked and struck with bricks in the head.

Arrest in burglary, sex assault at U.Md.

A Silver Spring man was arrested Wednesday in a burglary and sex assault on the University of Maryland campus, police said.

Oluwafemi Charles, 28, faces burglary and theft charges as well as charges of fourth-degree sexual offense and second-degree assault, University of Maryland police said.

In the early morning hours on Sunday, police say Charles entered a seventh-floor residence of an 18-year-old female student in an attempt to take property, police said, and while he was there he is accused of touching the woman in her sleep.
