Armed man strikes in Great Falls, escapes capture

Fairfax County police are trying to track down the armed man who robbed a Great Falls bank and fled, eluding a police helicopter and search dogs.

Fairfax County police said the heist happened Wednesday, when the man entered the Washington First Bank located at 9851 Georgetown Pike shortly after 11:30 a.m. The man demanded money from a teller and implied he was carrying a weapon.

A bank employee handed over cash and the man then ran from the bank on foot, authorities said. Police didn’t disclose how much money the robber obtained.

A police helicopter and K-9 units scoured the area for the burglar after the robbery was reported, but the man wasn’t located.

No injuries were reported during the heist.

The burglar is described as a black man between 34 and 36 years old, 5 feet 10 inches to 6-feet-tall, with a thin build. The man was wearing a white jacket and a black rain hat.
