Minnesota shooting suspect arrested after two-day manhunt

Vance Luther Boelter, the suspected gunman in the shootings of two Minnesota state lawmakers, has been arrested by authorities after a two-day manhunt.

According to ABC News, Boelter, 57, was arrested near his farm in Green Isle, Minnesota, after being spotted on a nearby trail via a camera.

Police had earlier discovered his alleged vehicle, along with a hat near it that was believed to be Boelter’s.

The arrest follows a manhunt for Boelter, the alleged gunman who, while impersonating a police officer, shot former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, along with state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife. Hortman and her husband both died, while Hoffman and his wife are out of surgery after being injured in the shooting.

Police exchanged fire with Boelter following a wellness check at Hortman’s residence, where they saw him shoot Hortman’s husband. Boelter escaped the scene on foot, triggering the weekendlong manhunt, and the FBI offered $50,000 for any information that led to Boelter’s arrest.

Police began searching the woods after a tip from a civilian. Boelter surrendered to police after hours of them searching the area. He was booked into Hennepin County Jail at 1:02 a.m. Central time.

On Sunday afternoon, officers also briefly detained Boelter’s wife at a traffic stop in Onamia, a small city over 100 miles from Green Isle. She was later released after questioning.

In Boelter’s vehicle, police found a list of potential targets, which included other politicians and abortion providers. Friends have described him as staunchly anti-abortion. Also inside the car, officials found fliers for the anti-Trump “No Kings” protests being held that day.

His longtime friend and part-time roommate Paul Schroeder told the New York Times that Boelter sent him a text Saturday before the shootings, saying goodbye.

“May be dead shortly, so I just want to let you know I love you guys both and I wish it hadn’t gone this way. I don’t want to say anything more and implicate you in any way because you guys don’t know anything about this. But I love you guys and I’m sorry for the trouble this has caused,” he wrote.
