Gunman shatters window, causes parkway closure

A man seen with a shotgun or rifle in Glen Burnie remained at large after he caused the Baltimore-Washington Parkway to be closed for hours. Calls to the police began shortly before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday with reports of a man with a gun running in the area of the parkway and Route 195. Maryland State Police did not know whether shots were fired, but they believe that the suspect used a shotgun to knock out the window of a Jeep used to operate a speed camera. No one was injured. Workers in nearby buildings were told to be on the lookout for the suspect described by police as a white male, between 50 and 60 years old, wearing a black-and-red flannel shirt and bluejeans.

Man sent to prison for assault on Capitol Police

A Suitland man was sentenced to 16 months in prison for an armed assault on U.S. Capitol Police officers. John Wesley Wheeler Jr., 30, pleaded guilty in March to one count of assaulting, resisting or impeding officers. Police said an officer in a marked car noticed Wheeler pacing back and forth. Wheeler left and returned a few minutes later, then he charged across the street at the officer and pointed a loaded gun at him. Two other Capitol Police officers arrived and ordered Wheeler to get on the ground. Instead, he pointed his weapon at the two officers, who shot him multiple times.
