Prince George’s police seek bank robber who threatened to detonate nuke

Authorities are looking for the man who held up four Prince George’s County banks by threatening to detonate a nuclear explosive.

The robberies have occurred across the county between December and February, police said.

In each of the incidents, a man passed a bank teller a note demanding money. The notes said the man was carrying some type of nuclear device, said Cpl. Larry Johnson, a Prince George’s County police spokesman. Johnson said he didn’t know whether the man appeared to have any explosives with him.

The most recent heist happened Feb. 27 at the M&T Bank located at 6304 Kirby Road in Clinton.

The other robberies happened on Feb. 9 at the Capital One branch located at 1040 Largo Town Center Drive in Largo, on Jan. 10 at the SunTrust branch at 5750 Crain Highway in Upper Marlboro and on Dec. 29 at the Wells Fargo at 5801 Silver Hill Road in District Heights.

Johnson said Monday that the robber is still at large and his identity remains unknown.

Police said the man has obtained cash and fled from the banks on foot in all of the heists. Authorities didn’t say how much money he has obtained.

The robber is described as a black man who is between 25 and 40 years old. He is about 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall and weighs between 150 and 200 pounds.

Anyone who has information about the heists is asked to call Prince George’s County police at 301-772-4905 or Crime Solvers at 866-411-TIPS (8477). Tipsters can also send a text message that says “PGPD” plus the information to CRIMES (274637).
