Ex-cop ran gambling ring A former D.C. police officer has admitted to running an illicit gambling operation out of his St. Mary’s County home. Darrell Alphonso Carter pleaded guilty this week in federal court in Greenbelt to one count of conducting an illegal gambling business, court records show. Plea documents say he hosted dice games, charged people to participate and made more than $2,000 on days he ran the games. Carter ran the games from January 2008 to September 2009, according to court records. He and 11 others in the gambling and drug ring were charged in September 2009. A search of Carter’s home uncovered dice, a ledger with gambling information and six firearms. Court documents say they kept the guns to protect the operation.
