Man shot near barbershop

A man was shot around noon Monday on a sidewalk outside a barbershop in Southeast Washington.

 

The man, who sustained life-threatening injuries, was taken to a hospital by emergency responders and was breathing and conscious, emergency officials said.

The wounded man walked into Pro Cut Family Barbershop at 2912 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE, to seek medical assistance. Workers called 911 for the man, said barber Tom Smith, who was absent at the time of the shooting but works at the shop. Police have not arrested anyone in the shooting, officials said.


60 firefighters respond to D.C. marina blaze

Sixty firefighters responded to a blaze Monday morning at a southeast Washington marina.

The fire damaged four boats, but no injuries were reported, officials said. The fire occurred at the Washington Yacht Club in the 1500 block of M Street. A fire spokesman said the fire might have sparked in one boat and spread to others, but the cause was unknown.


Alexandria police nab two at DWI checkpoint

Alexandria city police arrested two people on charges of driving while intoxicated over the weekend.

The arrests resulted from a special weekend checkpoint officials set up to target DWIs. The police also issued 13 summonses for miscellaneous traffic offenses, officials said Monday. The sobriety checkpoint lasted from 10 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday. – Liz Essley
