A man serving a lengthy sentence in California was sentenced to 50 more years after DNA evidence linked him to three cold case rapes in Montgomery County during the 1980s, officials said.

Gerald Smith, 54, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree rape and was sentenced Tuesday. The 50-year term will be tacked on to the 87-years-to-life sentence he’s serving in California for several more rapes.
