At a later press conference, the department also showed a video of the apparent shooter climbing off a building and then crossing a road toward trees. Mason said the shooter is wearing Converse tennis shoes.
FBI Director Kash Patel was at the press conference but did not speak. Gov. Spencer Cox (R-UT) said that the FBI had received a tremendous response from the public.
“The FBI hasn’t received this many digital media tips from the public since the Boston Marathon bombing,” he said. He also said a large amount of forensic evidence was being processed and more than 200 interviews had been conducted.
There were no questions taken at the conference. Cox advised the public to “put our phones down and spend a little time with our families.”
The new photos come after the FBI released the first clear photos of the person of interest earlier Thursday, also offering a $100,000 reward for any information that could lead to the gunman’s arrest. That batch of photos likewise depicted a man in dark clothing and dark hair with black sunglasses, a black backpack, and the American flag shirt.
