The Justice Department on Sunday revealed “threats” made against a leading DOJ official are under investigation by U.S. marshals.
Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon alleged in a post to X that she was the victim of threats, including several on Sunday evening. She said they have been referred to the U.S. Marshals Service and implied they are tied to “woke idiots” in Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D-CA) administration.
“Govern yourselves accordingly. FAFO,” she added, referencing the slang acronym “f*** around and find out.”
The development comes after Dhillon launched a probe into the Portland Police Department. The investigation targets authorities over their handling of ongoing protests at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in South Portland.
Local police have largely painted the protests as relatively mild. The Trump administration has framed them as violent demonstrations targeting law enforcement that necessitate federal intervention in the form of military troops. Dhillon’s investigation into the Portland Police Bureau’s “questionable” practices, announced Oct. 3, came amid conservative allegations that police aren’t doing enough to discourage violence and support ICE. It also followed conservative journalist Nick Sortor’s arrest as he covered protests at the ICE facility.
JUDGE BLOCKS TRUMP’S NATIONAL GUARD DEPLOYMENT TO PORTLAND
Newsom became involved in the protest on Sunday when he said Trump had ordered the California National Guard into Portland to quell demonstrations. The governor denounced the move as “un-American,” hours before a federal judge blocked the White House from deploying the troops.
The protests against ICE at the agency’s south Portland facility remain ongoing. Several demonstrators were arrested on Saturday, with police arresting two more Sunday evening, according to KGW 8.
