One dead in MGM National Harbor shooting

One person is dead after a targeted shooting on Wednesday at the MGM National Harbor Hotel and Casino, a luxury resort in Oxon Hill, Maryland, near Washington, D.C.

An unidentified suspect opened fire Wednesday afternoon in the food court at MGM National Harbor just before noon. Immediately after, the gunman fled the establishment by car.

During a five-minute press conference, Prince George’s County Police Chief George Nader revealed that the details are preliminary and subject to change as the investigation continues.

An adult man, believed to be in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second person reportedly suffered a graze wound, but the police department later determined only one victim was shot.

“From what I was told, there was no exchange,” the police chief told reporters. “The victim was ordering food. The suspect appeared and immediately began shooting at the victim.”

Authorities have the at-large suspect on video but declined to release further details of the suspect’s description. The motive remains unknown.

Nader assured that the suspect does not pose an active threat to the local community. The shooting did not appear to be random, police confirmed.

The food court was the only area at MGM National Harbor that police closed following the shooting. The rest of the casino remains open.
