Man fatally shot in Northwest D.C.
A man was shot to death in Northwest Washington shortly after midnight Sunday morning, according to D.C. police.
Police responding to reports of a struck pedestrian around 12:21 a.m. found a man, suffering from gunshot wounds, lying in the street on the 100 block of Irving Street NW. District Fire and Emergency Medical Services took Kevin Andre Washington, 20, of Northwest D.C. to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Hyattsville house fire
A Saturday afternoon fire left a family of five displaced from their home in Hyattsville, according to Prince George’s County fire officials. The family was not home at the time, and no one was injured.
Investigators determined that combustibles stored too close to a furnace caused the fire, according to Prince George’s Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Mark Brady. Firefighters responding to the scene Saturday afternoon were able to contain the fire to the first floor of the two-story home, located on the 2100 block of Rittenhouse Street. The fire caused about $75,000 in damage, Brady said.
The family, four adults and one child, have found temporary housing through the Red Cross.
21-year-old man killed
by train in Waldorf
A 21-year-old man was struck and killed by a CSX freight train traveling through Waldorf late Saturday afternoon, according to officials at the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.
Dangelo Harris was lying on tracks near Acton Lane when the train operator spotted him around 5 p.m., according to Capt. Rob Cleaveland, spokesman for the sheriff’s department. The operator tried to brake the train but could not stop it in time, Cleaveland said. Harris was declared dead at the scene. No one else was injured in the incident.
