Feds: ‘Blond Bandit’ confessed to crime spree

The woman suspected in a series of bank heists and carjackings confessed to the crimes after she was arrested following a Wednesday attempted robbery and police chase, according to court documents. Stephanie Schwab, 26, admitted to several of the incidents and provided accounts “substantially similar” to those from witnesses, a criminal complaint filed in federal court in Alexandria says.

Schwab — dubbed by some media outlets as the “Blond Bandit” — was arrested after she crashed her getaway vehicle in Bethesda, police said. She was allegedly fleeing after trying to rob a McLean bank.

Police had been on the lookout for Schwab for more than a week. She was wanted in bank robberies in Prince William and Fairfax counties and carjackings in Fairfax and Baltimore counties.
