A violent street gang member from Hyattsville was sentenced to more than 24 years in prison on racketeering charges, including for his role in the killing of another Hyattsville man.

Mario Molina-Valladares, 33, a native of El Salvador, was a member of the local 18th Street gang, which is based in Los Angeles.

Prosecutors said on the evening of May 5, 2007, Molina-Valladares, also known as Tiger, and fellow gang members shot and killed Jose Felix Carcamo during a struggle in a car in Prince George’s County. During the struggle Carcamo disabled the vehicle by kicking the gear shift before he was shot twice in the head.

The gang members dumped Carcamo’s body on an overpass and tried to make it look like a carjacking, authorities said. But DNA that belonged to Molina-Valladares was found on fingernail clippings taken from Carcamo during the autopsy.
