Two District residents were convicted of killing a man in 2007 during an early morning argument in Northeast Washington, prosecutors announced Monday.

Curtis L. McKnight, 23, was convicted of first-degree murder while armed, obstruction of justice and weapons charges in the 2007 shooting death of 33-year-old Raynard Jennings.

Robert H. Pumphrey Jr., 23, was convicted of second-degree murder while armed and weapons charges.

According to prosecutors, on Oct. 9, 2007, around 2:20 a.m., Jennings was seated in a Cadillac in the 500 block of 56th Street NE, when McKnight and Pumphrey parked behind him.

An argument ensued, and Jennings got out of his vehicle, opened his trunk and began tossing items out of it, though prosecutors said they don’t know why.

Pumphrey gave a .38 caliber semi-automatic pistol to McKnight, who shot Jennings six times, including once in the back of the head, prosecutors said.
