Stupid Crimes: Stupid crimes

Do’h!

A man botched a robbery of a Staten Island pizza man by grabbing the wrong bag of dough, of course.

Salvatore LaRosa, 25, surrendered to the feds to be charged in what authorities said would have been a well-planned stickup, according to the New York Daily News.

LaRosa and an unidentified accomplice allegedly followed the owners of Brother’s Pizzeria home. They put on masks and confronted the victims at gunpoint in their driveway, according to a complaint.

The assailants demanded one of the shopkeepers hand over a bag — thinking it contained the day’s proceeds, officials said.

“The bag that was stolen contained pizza dough,” according to the complaint.

Even though it wasn’t cash, the robbery victim resisted and was shot twice in the legs.

LaRosa was released on $1 million bail.

Read between the lines

A Sacramento,Calif., man was arrested after flipping the bird at his wife.

Paul Bechtel gave the rude gesture to his soon-to-be-ex-wife, Rebecca, in family court. Deputies placed him in cuffs for violating a restraining order against him that called for no communication with Rebecca. Giving someone the finger, authorities said, is a form of communication — and harassment.

Rebecca said it’s not the first time her husband has raised his middle finger at her since they filed for divorce, but it was the first time he did it in court.

“[He’s] very angry. Angry at the world,” she said.

Room serviced

A hotel guest smashed his room with a wrench after someone called and told him to free a “midget” trapped next door.

Joseph Jones, 73, said the caller told him the previous guest had installed cameras in his room, and the caller would instruct him on how to get rid of them.

Jones said the caller asked him if the TV was on, and if it was to turn it off and unplug it. Jones said he did as he was told.

Next, he was told to remove the back toilet cover and to smash the TV with it. He did and the cover shattered without breaking the TV screen, so he was instructed to throw the TV outside. Jones did.

The male caller told him he needed to smash the mirrors. Jones grabbed a wrench that he found in the room and smashed the mirrors, the report said.

Jones said the caller then said that a “midget” was barricaded in the next room next and that he needed to help. Jones took his wrench and began to break away the wallboard. He broke through to the next room but stopped after other guests complained.

You can never be too prepared

An Illinois man who was stopped with a pipe bomb in his backpack told police he had been carrying it for two years.

Ryan Barton, 20, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon after police discovered the bomb when questioning him about a series of auto burglaries in Wheeling, Ill.

Police said he was not linked to the thefts.

Barton gave no reason for carrying the bomb but said a former friend helped him build it.
