Maryland authorities on Tuesday confirmed a suspect and an officer were shot during an active shooting incident in Baltimore.
Baltimore City Police Commissioner Richard Worley said the officer is “doing well” during a press conference detailing the incident, explaining that police were met with gunfire when they responded to the scene at the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue.
Authorities fatally shot the suspect after he “appeared at the window with a gun to the head of another family member multiple times,” Worley said, adding that the female victim jumped out of the window to escape. The female was taken to the hospital but did not appear to have sustained injuries, the commissioner said.
When the shooting was first reported, it was unclear whether it was tied to the Agudath Israel synagogue or another Jewish high school in the immediate area. Baltimore police said the incident “was NOT at a synagogue or religious institution,” in comments to Fox News Digital.
“BPD is on the scene of an Active Shooter Incident in the 6200 block of Parl Heights Avenue. An officer has been shot & transported to Shock Trauma. A suspect was also shot. Avoid the surrounding areas. More information will be provided as it becomes available,” authorities initially wrote in a post to X.
