D.C. employee arrested in cocaine bust

An employee of the District of Columbia was arrested Tuesday in a drug raid in Southeast D.C.

Police say Lorenzo Sanders, of the Mayor’s Office of Religious Affairs, was found with, among other items, over 60 grams of cocaine, $2000 cash, ski masks, extra cell phones, and drug paraphernalia after being served with a warrant to search his apartment, Fox 5 DC reports.

Sanders is not an appointee of current Mayor Muriel Bowser, but rather a holdover from Mayor Vincent Gray’s administration.

Mayor Gray is still himself the subject of a criminal investigation, and lost his primary to Bowser last year, amidst allegations of involvement with campaign finance fraud.

Sanders has worked for D.C. since 2012 and is currently being held without bond.
