Men granted bail in racing deaths

Two men charged in the crash that killed eight people in Prince George’s County were granted bond Monday. Judge William Missouri granted $200,000 bond for 20-year-old Darren Bullock and $120,000 bond for 18-yearold Tavon Taylor. Both men are from Waldorf.

Prosecutors said Bullock plowed into a group of street racing fans along the isolated stretch of Route 210 in Accokeek while he and Taylor were racing each other in the early-morning darkness. The fans had spilled into the road to watch two other cars race off when they were hit from behind. With their backs turned, the spectators couldn’t see the fast-approaching cars of Bullock and Taylor racing behind them.

Prosecutors say Bullock and Taylor weren’t part of the organized event that the fans had come to watch. No charges have been fi led against the drivers in the race that the crowd had gathered to watch. Bullock was driving on a suspended license and was pulled over in May for allegedly driving a stolen van in Charles County. Court records show that Taylor was ticketed in March for driving with a passenger who was under 16 and not wearing a seat belt.
