Crime History: Mother, infant daughter slain in stunning case

On this day, Jan. 20, in 2006, Neil Entwistle killed his wife and their infant daughter in Massachusetts before fleeing to his native England in a case that shocked both continents. Rachel, 27, died of a gunshot wound to the head, and Lillian Rose, 9 months old, died of a gunshot wound to the stomach. Entwistle said he came across their bodies, covered their bodies with blankets, and fled. He did not alert authorities.

When police arrested him in London three weeks later, Entwistle had a notebook in which he drafted letters to sell the story of his family’s death. Prosecutors said days before the murders, Entwistle looked at a Web site that described “how to kill people” and searched for escort services on a swingers Web site.

Entwistle was sentenced to two life prison terms.
