Police seek help finding gunman who shot cab driver in robbery attempt

Prince George’s County police are seeking help in identifying a man who shot a cab driver while trying to rob him in Landover Hills.

Shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday, the driver picked up the suspect from the New Carrollton Metro station and drove him to Cooper Lane Elementary School/Academy in the 3800 block of Cooper Lane. When they got to the location, the suspect asked the victim to drive to the back of the school, police said.

The driver refused, the suspect pointed a handgun at him and demanded money, police said. Following a struggle, the suspect shot the driver in the leg and left the cab without money.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for a non-life threatening injury.

The suspect is described as black, about 20 years old, 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, with short hair and a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with a yellow design on the front and khaki cargo shorts.
