A motorist whose sports-utility vehicle drove off the Arlington Memorial Bridge into the Potomac River is expected to live, U.S. Park Police said.
Sgt. Paul Brooks said the male driver was taken to a local hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
The accident happened about 10 p.m. Sunday. The bridge was closed for nearly five hours.
The vehicle crashed through a barrier on the Virginia side of the bridge and splashed into the river, he said. It wasn’t immediately clear why the SUV left the roadway.
