In 1981, Dallas fatally shot two officers who had come to arrest him for poaching bobcats.
Dallas was convicted in both deaths and sentenced to 30 years.
On Easter Sunday 1986, he escaped from prison by cutting two fences.
He was recaptured a year later, but beat the escape rap by convincing a jury he had to flee because prison guards were looking to kill him.
He was released from prison in 2005.
