Missing tape of Va. Tech shooter found in MontCo

A missing tape offering clues to the thinking of the Virginia Tech shooter has turned up in Montgomery County files. Officials discovered the tape of Seung-Hui Cho’s 2005 civil commitment hearing misplaced among criminal and traffic files.

Lawyers for the parents of two students killed in the shooting requested the tape for their two $10 million civil suits against Virginia Tech.

Officials had thought the tape had been destroyed in 2009 after a three-year mandate to keep them expired, The Roanoke Times reported.

The tape depicts Cho appearing before a magistrate, who ordered Cho to get outpatient counseling.

The attorney who obtained the tape from Montgomery County said that Cho’s voice is inaudible on the tape and that he is searching for a company who can enhance the sound.
