A Loudoun County man was charged in a December incident in which he brandished a firearm and held a 16-year-old female against her will while pretending to be a police officer, authorities said.
Jose Rivera-Laboy, 21, of Sterling, was charged with kidnapping, impersonating a police officer and weapons offenses.
Around 4 p.m. on Dec. 14, a 16-year-old girl was walking near E. Dartmouth Drive in Sterling when she and a friend were approached by two teenage females and a male, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Rivera-Laboy indicated that he was a police officer and exposed a firearm on his waistband, officials said. He later entered a residence along with the victim’s friend, according to the sheriff’s office, and pretended to her mother that he was a police officer from Maryland. Authorities said Rivera-Laboy was a boyfriend of one of the teenage girls who approached the victim.
