Father charged in baby’s death

A 29-year-old Manassas man was charged with murder in the death of his infant son. Herbert Price, of 9464 Abington Court, turned himself over to Fairfax County police Sunday and was charged with murder and child abuse. His 9-month-old son, Dylan Price, was taken to a hospital on Sept. 22, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities did not indicate anything suspicious at the time. The autopsy and additional testing resulted in the medical examiner ruling Dylan’s death to be a homicide, police said.

Third teen says she was

abused during piano lessons

A third teenager has come forward to say she was sexually abused as a child by the husband of her former piano teacher, Fairfax County police said. Police charged 71-year-old George Desmond Copping with two more counts of aggravated sexual battery after a 19-year-old woman told them this month that she had been abused as an 8-year-old during piano lessons at her teacher’s former home on the 5700 block of Wood Creek Lane. Police began investigating Copping in February after a 17-year-old told them she had been abused as a 7-year-old piano student. Police discovered a 19-year-old who said she was abused under the same circumstances as an 11-year-old.

Officer ordered detained

in teen ‘sexting’ case

An Anne Arundel County police lieutenant accused of “sexting” with a teenage girl has been ordered to remain behind bars pending a trial in federal court. James Cifala, 47, was charged with attempted receipt of child pornography. Prosecutors said Cifala convinced a 16-year-old girl into sending him sexually explicit photographs of herself via cell phone. In less than a month, according to authorities, the two exchanged 1,300 messages: “You were great today,” reads an Aug. 15 message from a Cifala’s cell phone. “Sex with you is fun,” the girl replied.

The elderly woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking across the street in Wheaton this weekend was identified as 82-year-old Sara Lazzaro of the 12100 block of Grandview Avenue. Montgomery County police said Lazzaro was trying to cross Georgia Avenue on the south side of the Shorefield Road intersection around 6 p.m. Saturday when she was struck by a gray Toyota 4Runner. The driver remained on the scene and Lazzaro was taken to a hospital where she died.
