Publicist for Jackson, Barry pleads in tax case

A former spokeswoman for celebrities and political figures that include Michael Jackson and Marion Barry has pleaded guilty in a federal tax case.

Raymone Bain admitted that she didn’t file federal or D.C. income tax returns from 2006 to 2008, when she was working as the former pop star’s general manager and the president of the Michael Jackson Company.

The tax loss was between $200,000 and $400,000, her plea agreement says.

Bain served as Barry’s spokeswoman during his 1994 campaign for his fourth term as mayor and during his term in office after he won the election. She founded the District-based public relations firm Davis, Bain & Associates, and her celebrity clients have included Serena Williams, Boyz II Men and Janet Jackson. She coordinated celebrity surrogates for presidential campaigns, her website says.

Fire at Tune Inn

A Wednesday morning fire at Tune Inn caused $75,000 to $100,000 in damage, according to fire officials.

The blaze broke out at the popular Capitol Hill restaurant and bar at 7:15 a.m., said Pete Piringer, spokesman for D.C. fire and emergency services. Staff called 911 after the fire started in the kitchen. No one was injured, Piringer said. The fire is believed to be accidental. – Emily Babay
