Maryland man charged in library break-in

A Maryland man was arrested after he was caught breaking into a library in an attempt to steal money, police said.

Anne Arundel County police said officers responded to the Severna Park Library, located at 45 West McKinsey Road, at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday after an alarm went off. Police saw damage to the building and signs of forced entry.

Officers then saw someone moving in the building; a K-9 unit found 22-year-old Joseph D. Smith, of Annapolis, hiding in a storage room, police said.

Authorities said Smith had apparently broken into the building to steal money. He is facing charges of burglary, destruction of property and theft.
