P.G. police shoot man to death
Prince George’s Police officers shot and killed a gunman in Palmer Park on Monday afternoon, the second police-involved shooting in three days. At about 2:30 p.m., police say they received a call from a citizen that a man with a gun was threatening people in a residential area in the 1800 block of Ray Leonard Road. Police arrived on the scene within a minute, the man brandished a handgun and police officers opened fire, authorities said. Police said late Monday they did not have any other details to release on the shooting. On Friday, an 18-year department veteran shot a 19-year-old man in the arm whom the officer said tried to run him over.
D.C. cop arrested in burglary sting
A D.C. police officer was arrested on burglary charges in an internal affairs sting operation. Police said Officer Jennifer Green was arrested Saturday after she participated with undercover officers in what she believed to be a burglary of a home in the 5500 block of Colorado Avenue NW. Green had been the target of criminal investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs unit. Green, who has been with the D.C. police department for five years, was placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the criminal charges.
Teen dies in collision
An 18-year-old Damascus woman was killed in a head-on collision in Germantown early Monday. Montgomery County police said Kirsten Danielle Mergner was traveling south on Route 27 near Brink Road at about 4:30 a.m. when the Honda Civic she was driving crossed the center lane and struck a northbound Ford Explorer. The driver of the other vehicle, 50-year-old Jill Yvette Gole of Mount Airy, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
