A man has been arrested after he allegedly assaulted a security guard with a baseball bat at a Prince George’s County daycare center.
Mickel Tyrone Young, 26, was charged in connection with assault and vehicle theft, Prince George’s County police said.
About 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Young entered the It’s a Family Affair daycare center in the 300 block of Garrett Morgan Boulevard in Landover. Young asked to use the phone and became violent when staff refused his request, police said.
A security guard confronted Young with a baseball bat, police said, and Young took the bat from him and began to assault him with it. Young left the daycare but then returned and broke windows with the bat, police said.
Young fled in a stolen vehicle after taking its keys from a daycare employee. When police apprehended him in the area of Barlowe Road and Village Green Drive, he seemed to be under the influence of what police called a “dangerous” substance. After Young kicked a hole in a wall and assaulted three officers at a police station, he was taken to a hospital for a psychological evaluation.
The security guard was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition. Young didn’t injure children during the incident, police said, and no children saw the incident.
