Va. man gets prison for arranging sex with boy
A 51-year-old Alexandria man was sentenced to nearly four years in prison for arranging to have sex with a 12-year-old boy.
Federal prosecutors in D.C. said Mark Linek contacted a undercover officer posing online as a pedophile and expressed interest in meeting an underage boy to have sex. Linek also sent several videos of child pornography by instant messenger. On June 15, Linek traveled to a prearranged meeting place in D.C. and was arrested.
He pleaded guilty in October and was sentenced to 46 months.
Man struck by train in Fairfax identified
The man struck by a train in Lorton has been identified by Fairfax County police as 46-year-old Kevin E. Eversburg.
Police responded when a railroad worker found his body on the tracks near Pohick Road and Interstate 95 around 9:45 a.m. Saturday.
Eversburg had been struck by a train. Police said authorities don’t suspect foul play, but are still investigating the circumstances of his death.
Cop cleared in fatal shooting of Va. tourist in Miami Beach
A Miami Beach police officer was justified in using deadly force when he shot and killed a Woodbridge man outside a South Beach nightclub in 2009.
Prosecutors formally cleared Officer Adam Tavss on Tuesday, saying in a report that he “likely was led to believe that his life or the lives of others was in danger” when he fatally shot Husien Shehada one June 14, 2009.
Prosecutors say Shehada and his brother had hidden a beer bottle and a wooden coat hanger under their shirts, leading to 911 calls about armed men walking on the street, according to Miami news reports.
