Husband guilty of killing wife

A Prince George’s County jury convicted a man of strangling his wife and stuffing the bloody evidence down a storm drain.

Spencer Ellsworth Chase, 49, of Beltsville, will be sentenced July 23 for first-degree murder in the death of Antoinette Renee Chase, 46.

Ellsworth said he came home to find his wife of 15 years lying on the kitchen floor. Five days later, police found the victim’s cell phones, wedding rings and purse with her credit cards in a storm drain at a shopping center. Also in the drain was a plastic bag containing a bloody extension cord, gloves and some cleaning supplies. DNA recovered on the gloves belonged to both the defendant and the victim.

Mrs. Chase was a U.S. Customs and Border Protection analyst.

Man charged with using

fake diplomatic license plate

A Georgia man has been accused of driving around the District using a fake diplomatic license plate.

Charging documents filed in federal court said Nicholas Marino was caught Nov. 20 with an insignia of the U.S. State Department seal on a bogus diplomatic license plate. Marino faces up to six months in jail.

Marino was charged by information, which is an indication that a plea deal is in the works because the charge can only be filed with the defendant’s consent.

Accused trooper killer denied bond

A judge denied bond for one of the defendants in the shooting death of a Maryland state trooper.

The judge told Anthony Milton II that his first-degree murder charge could result in the death penalty.

Charging documents said Milton, 28, admitted that he and Cyril Williams, 27, carried out the shooting of Trooper Wesley Brown.

Williams had been charged with attempted murder of a Prince George’s County police officer in 2006, but that charge was dropped.
