Takoma Park man sentenced in foreclosure scheme

Earnest Lewis, 52, was sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison for defrauding homeowners who were heading into foreclosure, prosecutors said. Lewis earned $2.2 million in the scheme, which targeted the vulnerable homeowners in television advertisements promising to improve their credit and save their homes if they signed their title over to MKL Associates, court documents said. Lewis and his co-conspirators promised that his good credit would make it possible to for the homeowners to refinance. They could remain in their homes while this happened by paying rent. Instead, the conspirators kept all the cash and many of the homes went into foreclosure, prosecutors said. Germantown credit union robbed

A 63-year-old man and his 42-year-old daughter were charged with growing marijuana outside their home after Kent County sheriff’s deputies drove by the house and saw them caring for the plants. All together, nine marijuana plants were seized from Erika Armiger’s house, authorities said. Her father, Geoffrey Armiger, later told officers he had drug paraphernalia at his house near Kingstown in Queen Anne’s County, where authorities said they also found another pot plant and evidence of growing and drying plants in an outside building.
