At least 25 D.C. public schools have received letters containing a suspicious white powder, the FBI confirmed.
“We’ve collected a letter from three of them and cleared the school with no known hazard at this point, and we’re working on the four remaining locations,” spokesman Andrew Ames said.
D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Pete Piringer said they first received reports around noon on Thursday from Terrell Elementary School in Southeast of a suspicious powder. The school was partially evacuated, although no students were sick or ill.
They then received calls from Ronald Brown Middle School, Powell Elementary School, Lafayette Elementary School, and Martin Luther King Elementary School.
At least 20 more schools then reported incidents, the FBI and D.C. police confirmed.
Piringer said that all packages are being sent to the FBI for further analysis.
